The Government of
the City of Leland consists of a mayor and five aldermen.
These officials are elected every four years. City Boards
and Commissions are appointed positions, along with the positions
of City Clerk, Police Chief, City Attorney, and City Judge.
The City owns and
operates an electric power and water distribution system,
as well as a waste water system. These systems have adequate
capacity to serve residential, commercial, and industrial
needs, and may lawfully service water customers located within
one mile of the corporate limits. Mississippi Valley Gas Company
and South Central Bell provide natural gas and telephone service
respectively. CMA Cablevision provides cable service to approximately
2,500 households.
The City operates a Street
and Sanitation Department which provides curbside garbage
and trash pickup services twice a week to businesses and households
within the corporate limits. The City employs a staff of 19,
and in addition to garbage and trash pickups, runs a successful
Recycling Center and Compost Facility.

The City has a current
tax rate of 35.5 mills on an assessed valuation of $12,828,000.00.
Leland holds assets of $5,400,000.00, liabilities of $539,000.00,
with no outstanding long-term indebtedness.
